R. Saravanan is Professor and Head of the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University. After obtaining his MSc in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, he switched to climate science for further study, taking his first course on climate from Syukuro Manabe. He obtained his PhD from Princeton University, and has carried out climate research, using both simple and complex models, at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University and at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.
